MMM: Mid Week Motivation: Garden Spells

Hi!  Since it's my week to play hostess over at Make My Monday, I get to share with you a little Mid Week Motivation in addition to my weekly DT card!

Here's the inspiration I've got for you today~

Details~

Inspired by~

For these fabulous challenges~

(I was inspired by the colors & fabulous patterns.)

I was inspired by the story line of the book.  I won't give anything away, but this book is about a woman who has closed herself off to the world because of all the hurt she's had to endure and she has lots of decisions to make through the course of this book.  She eventually learns to follow her heart--it will make you happier than just using logic, even if it does leave you vulnerable and open to more pain.

I've used a patterned card base by DCWV, rhinestones by Prima, glimmer mist by Tattered Angels, and all other supplies are from Stampin' Up!.  If you'd like to know a little bit more about how I created this card, pop on over to Make My Monday!

Thanks for stopping by to take a peek!  Please come and play along with us this week and don't forget to leave some love with the other DT gals!  HUGS and happy stamping! :)

MMM: Garden Spells Inspiration

Hi, friends!  It's my turn to torture you with one of my Literary Inspiration challenges over at Make My Monday!  This time around, I'd like you to be inspired by the book cover and/or story of "GARDEN SPELLS" BY SARAH ADDISON ALLEN.

Here's the book cover~

A little bit about this story: "The Waverleys have always been a curious family, endowed with peculiar gifts that make them outsiders even in their hometown of Bascom, North Carolina. Even their garden has a reputation, famous for its feisty apple tree that bears prophetic fruit, and its edible flowers, imbued with special powers. Generations of Waverleys tended this garden. Their history was in the soil. But so were their futures. A successful caterer, Claire Waverley prepares dishes made with her mystical plants - from the nasturtiums that aid in keeping secrets and the pansies that make children thoughtful, to the snapdragons intended to discourage the attentions of her amorous neighbor. Meanwhile, her elderly cousin, Evanelle, is known for distributing unexpected gifts whose uses become uncannily clear. They are the last of the Waverleys - except for Claire’s rebellious sister, Sydney, who fled Bascom the moment she could, abandoning Claire, as their own mother had years before. When Sydney suddenly returns home with a young daughter of her own, Claire’s quiet life is turned upside down - along with the protective boundary she has so carefully constructed around her heart. Together again in the house they grew up in, Sydney takes stock of all she left behind, as Claire struggles to heal the wounds of the past. And soon the sisters realize they must deal with their common legacy - if they are ever to feel at home in Bascom - or with each other." (Description from HERE.)

I've used the Black Magic technique and used stamps by Inspired by Stamping and a sentiment by Stampin' Up!.  The liquid pearl accents are by Ranger, the white ink is by Versamark, the white embossing powder is by Stampendous!, the colored pencils I used to color the images are by Crayola, and the cardstock is all Stampin' Up!.

I love the story of this book.  I was inspired by the layout and theme of the cover but the sentiment was inspired by Claire's personality.  She just keeps going no matter what.  She's blocked out a lot of feelings because they are just too painful and she just stays calm and carries on.  Poor girl!  But there is a happy ending!  Read the book if you care to find out. ;)

Thanks for coming by to take a peek at my creation!  I do hope you'll come and join in our challenge this week and that you'll take a bit more time to say hello to the other gals on the DT!  Happy stamping! :)

Scenic Art Journaling

Hi, friends!  I've been following along with Clare's amazing Art Journaling Classes but I missed one--OOPS!!!  So, I had to fix that this weekend!  Her video this time around was about creating a scene.  I was a bit intimidated, but Clare does a great job on her videos so I think I might have succeeded and that this project will be framed and put in my home or given as a gift!  Thanks, Clare!!!

Here's what I came up with~

Details~

Can you see the splatter from the water & glimmer mist?

Better detail of the bubble wrap stamping. LOVE this!

Authentique paper roses for some flora.

Torn paper hills with fern stamped over them.

Paper pieced birch trees--a glorious image!

More roses.  I love this fabulous paper!

For these fabulous challenges~

This piece of artwork uses patterned papers from Recollections, Authentique, DCWV, and more from my stash that I'm unsure of.  These papers were used for landscape aspects.

For the sky, I used my blending tool by Ranger, Tempting Turquoise ink by Stampin' Up!, bubble wrap (my newest fave!), good old fashioned water, and some gold glimmer mist by Tattered Angels.  I tried out the drip technique with water and the glimmer mist, but it didn't work exactly right although I do love how it created "clouds" in the sky!  Water is an amazing way to create texture!

The trees and fern stamped images are by Clarity, the sentiment is from Stampin' Up!, and the glitter around the edges of things is by Studio 112.  I paper pieced the trees using white paper to show the amazing birch detail of them.  I LOVE how the white just POPS out at you!

Thanks for stopping by to take a peek!  I hope you like what you see and that you're inspired to try something new today!  HUGS and happy art journaling!!! :)
