MHKDesigns: Tulip of Thanks

Hi, everyone!  It's time for a mini-release for MHKDesigns!  I made a few mini sets that are minimal in cost, plus I've added some papers, so my team is going to be sharing the cards and sets from the 22nd-26th.  Stay tuned for the beginning of October, too, because I am sponsoring the Hop to Stop and so I'll have 2 more sets and another paper pack to share with you on the 1st!!!

Before we get started, I have a WINNER
from yesterday's post to announce!

The winner is...

Glittered Paws who said:
"Oh Wow - love the "mums" and love how you did the background. So many things to do with watercolors, and people just seem to come up with more techniques.
Love the trim you used."

Please email me at mhkdesigns.etsyATgmailDOTcom
and I will email you the set from yesterday!!!

Today we're sharing the "Tulip of Thanks" set...

My absolute favorite flower is the tulip, and this image just makes my heart happy!  I am always looking for unique gratitude sentiments, so I decided those would be the focus.  Take a peek at what I created with this set + the Damsel In Distress papers...

I really feel like the image from Tulip of Thanks can stand on its own, so I chose to make it large and to have it take up most of the card front.  I used colored pencil to color in the image and the background.  I wasn't as happy with the background, so I blended it and then added a watercolor wash to fill in any white spaces.  Some glitter was added to the shadowed parts of the flower for added shine.

I added some large rhinestones to the image panel, then added it to a card base that was prepped with paper from the Damsel in Distress pack and some cheesecloth for added texture.

I knew I needed to add a sentiment, so I opted to add it to the inside.  I really like the way the fonts of the sentiments from the Tulip of Thanks set go together!

I really think this turned out beautifully--I hope you do, too!  Please leave me a comment below to let me know what you think!

It's gorgeous, Mynnette. I've always struggled coloring in flowers, but the way this is designed with the shaded parts leaves me with a feeling I could manage coloring this one. It deserves to be in the spotlight, so I like that you kept it fairly simple, just adding a bit of sparkle and texture. Great job!
